PV MODULES

AND RELATED COMPONENTS

Photovoltaic (PV) modules – commonly known as solar panels
– contain toxic substances such as lead and cadmium, which can
leach into the soil and groundwater if the modules are disposed of in landfills.

In addition, PV modules contain rare and valuable metals such
as silicon, indium and gallium, among others.

Types of PV-modules and components we recycle:

  • Glass Components
  • Aluminium Frame
  • Silicon (Semiconductor Layer)
  • Materials like: Copper, Silver, Tin, Indium, Gallium,
    Tellurium, Cadmium and Lead
  • Plastic/Polymer Encapsulants
(e.g. EVA – Ethylene Vinyl Acetate)
  • Back-sheet (Plastic or Composite Layers)

SOME PV MODULES HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR A SECOND LIFE AND, WITH OUR CUSTOMERS’ PERMISSION, CAN BE RE-CERTIFIED FOR RE-USE IN OUR NON-PROFIT COMMUNITY PROJECTS AND OTHER SUITABLE APPLICATIONS.

For end-of-life PV modules, we safely recover up to 90% of the main components – including aluminium, glass and copper – and channel the reclaimed materials back into manufacturing streams.

No silicon-based PV modules are sent to landfill, regardless of their condition.
